The driving emotion behind this project is the processing of grief as the two humans behind Gorillaz (Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett) both lost their fathers around the time of the production of this album. And it leads them to a trip to India, which saw the members develop a new sense of appreciation for both life and the afterlife. Exploring the concept of reincarnation, drawing inspiration from Indian culture, both spiritually and musically.
